To all at JGO, Well, the time has come for me to part ways with Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle). It has been an extraordinary journey for me at Sun and am grateful for the opportunity to pursue an industry I love and help build the community here at JGO. This does not mean my leaving JGO and will continue my participation here. As well, I am still talking to individuals at Sun to discuss the future of the site, etc. If you want to follow what I am doing next, my new site, http://www.pastpixels.com, goes live in the 2nd week of January February. Thanks to all for your dedication to this community and your support. It is greatly appreciated. Onwards and upwards! -Chris

Thank you for the major effort on getting games some priority at Sun. There were probably a few close ones with deploying Java on the consoles, too bad it didn't happen.
So what's next? Starting your own business or will it be 'just' a blog?

I would just like to voice my appreciation for the community that you've built. It's probably been the single greatest help to my game programming abilities. Thank you, and I hope everything goes well.

Kalh epityxia se oti kaneis Chris!
I would be interested to know why you're leaving actually. Does it have anything to do with Oracle's "Java gaming" strategy (or lack thereof)? Or is it some random reason we don't really need to know?

Shame to see you leaving. Clearly Oracle has other intentions with Java than most of us here would like to see.
Wish you well, and may your new endeavors be prosperous ones.

Another thanks for making JGO exist. It's been a fun ride. Do let us know (if you can) a little bit beforehand if Oracle decides to jettison JGO - it would be nice to have some time to try to move the community elsewhere.

well good luck with the future. btw what happens with JGO now? who do we complain and bug if the server goes down? any backup plan if Oracle decides, JGO is no longer need? bit concerned about the future of JGO, now that your leaving. JGO is my favorite forums and best best java gaming community. Again thx for all the great effort in making it what it is. edit. also noticed the domain expires at the start of 2012, Oracle have any plans to renew it?

We do know he's preparing a display for the Smithsonian on the history of videogames. I would guess this to be related.

Who will do his best to encourage Oracle to invest some resources in gaming? There are almost no JVM on set-top boxes and ADSL boxes; as far as I know, only one video games machine uses Java (Odroid). It is still not possible to sell Java games on AppStore

The big question is: Why can't I run Java anywhere like I can run C code? You know there's only one real answer to that. Cas

The big question is: Why can't I run Java anywhere like I can run C code? You know there's only one real answer to that. Cas What do you mean? Java SE for Embedded can be used on MIPS and ARM architecture. J2ME is already used on a lot of mobile phones. Maybe using Sun's J2ME commercially is too much expensive, this would explain why Google created the Dalvik VM. Anyway, it is difficult to use Java for commercial games except on computers and mobile phones (excluding IPhone).
